Tift County’s Finance Department is
responsible for managing all financial assets held by
Tift County. This includes maintaining current
documentation of all financial transactions at each
level of the County. The department processes all
payments to outside vendors and agencies, receives and
deposits in a timely manner all payments to the County
from outside sources and generates monthly reports for
review by the Board of Commissioners. The Finance
Department is also responsible for developing the
County’s annual budget which details the projected
revenues and expenditures of all County departments for
each fiscal year. The County’s fiscal year begins on
July 1 and ends on June 30. Throughout the year the
Finance Department manages the budget and provides each
County department with monthly reports detailing the
department’s expenditures so that the department head
can adjust his operations for the remainder of the year
accordingly. In addition, the employees of the Finance
Department work hand in hand with the County’s outside
auditors as they audit the financial records of the
County each year.
In summary, all revenues received
by the County and all expenditures disbursed must pass
through this department and it is the responsibility of
the Finance Department to assure that these transactions
are processed and documented both timely and
accurately.
