Richard Burr, Director, began his career with Tift County in 1993 as a Light Equipment Operator and moved up the ladder to Roads Superintendent in June 1998. After a short term as Interim Co-Director, Richard was named Public Works Director in mid 2006.

The Public Works Department currently has 47 full-time employees and 4 part-time employees. They run a fleet of five (5) motor graders, five (5) dump trucks, four (4) mowing tractors, two (2) excavators, two (2) dirt pans, two (2) bulldozers, and various other equipment. Richard and his wife Valerie reside in Tift County and have three daughters, Brittany, 17 Victoria, 14 and Taylor, 13. Valerie is employed by Tift Regional Medical Center in the MIS Department. Richard is an avid race fan and a diehard Dale Earnhardt Jr. follower.
