The Tift County Assessors office is responsible for the assessment of real property, such as land, homes, commercial buildings, mobile homes, new construction, and taxable "personal property" such as boats, airplanes and commercial inventory. The Assessors office reviews deeds to track ownership transfers and acreage changes.
All property in Georgia is assessed at 40% of the Fair Market Value for local property taxes. Property taxes are used locally, for services that benefit all citizens of Tift County. Property taxes are collected and administered by our local Government Officials, the people who live here, work here and raise their families in Tift County.
In accordance with the Official Code of Georgia, annotated, 48-5-264.1, the Tift County Assessors Office must notify property owners prior to making a site visit. Notice is hereby given that a representative of the appraisal staff will review and inspect all properties that:
- Have changed ownership in the last 12 months
- Obtained a building permit for construction or electrical work
- Obtained a mobile home location permit
- Mobile home decal reviews
- Made a return of value on the property
- Reported fire damage, storm damage or other demolition
- Other reviews determined necessary for correct value
These appraisal reviews may include measuring structures, listing construction information and photographing the subject property. A majority of the field reviews are conducted between December and May, during regular business hours; however, reviews are conducted all during the year.
The appraisal staff will be in a marked county vehicle with a government license plate and will carry identification sufficient to permit the owner/occupant to readily ascertain that such a person is a representative of the Tift County Assessors office.
If your property will be the subject of one or more of the aforementioned random reviews and you prefer to make an appointment for a specific date and time for review, please contact the Tift County Assessors office at (229) 386-7840 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
